It's a new year and we have started to invest more time towards the blog.

He is a Wildlife and Landscape photographer living in Johannesburg. In may 2009 he bought his first digital SLR camera purely to take better holiday pictures, And well, that did not last very long. He soon began upgrading his equipment to bigger and better equipment.


He has invested a lot into his equipment and travels, and being able to share his images with friends and family is all the reward I could ever ask for.


He loves the African bush and all its small wonders that most overlook, from the little guys crossing the roads to the leopards making a kill next to our vehicle.


He often find the five hour hike for one photo as rewarding as knowing that he has been able to capture a moment in time. From sitting on the edge of a cliff for hours waiting the the last five minutes of golden light, to the 12 hours sitting in a hide on top a mountain waiting for that one special landing from one of our countries majestic birds.

Best quality speakers - Both 2.1 and 5.1

Well this isn't the latest technology out there but it is one of the few that was cheaper the day they were released then their current price.
 
First we are looking at the Z2300 from Logitech.  This 2.1 system  is the best of the best for the price you are paying.  They are around R1800 brand new and worth every cent.

The front left and right speaker is 40w (rms) each and the sub is a 8" and an amazing 120w (rms.)  The volume controller is connected to the sub and it has a main volume and also a nice smaller controller just for the bass as well as a headphone jack to make it easy for late night gaming.

The quality of the sub is amazing.  You can't really believe it's an 8" sub.  The quality from the satellite speakers are really good but I have to admit that if you don't have a really good sound card to distribute the audio correct too much base will be send to them and you will notice distortion.

If you have some cash for something more then the usual this is what you need.

Now we will be looking at a 5.1 system.  This is the Z5500 from logitech.

This isn't just an computer entertainment system.  This is a hardcore 5.1 system with 505w (rms) and it will outplay a lot of the 5.1 home theater systems in the same price range.

The sub is a 10" 188w (rms), the center speaker is 69w (rms) and the 4 satellite speakers is 62w (rms) each.

It has a volume control unit that controls the input, mute, volume and some nice features like stereo, stereo x2, Movie and music settings for better sound quality.

You can see it has an optical connection, a 3x 3.5mm audio jacks (you get a converter included in the box that goes to RCA) and on the side you have your Audio line in that is also a 3.5mm jack.

The input connections are the only setback on the system.  If you have several connections that has to run through your 5.1 system this will be a problem. 

The built in decoders gives you excellent quality.  It supports:

Dolby Digital,
DTS decoder,
DTS 96/24,
Dolby Pro Logic II
 
Both the sub and the clarity on this is amazing and this is a must if you have the cash.  It will cost you around R4500 new for this unit and make sure your car is big enough for the box.

AMD 1090T

Here is a short review on the AMD 1090T processor that is stock 3.2 Ghz with 6 cores.  I tested it with the Asus Crosshair IV Formula and 5870 and it was really smooth in everything I tested. The cache is 512KB of L2 per core and the L3 is 6MB Cache and the chip is a 45nm.

Once I booted Windows 7 I noticed how fast and smooth everything was.  When I started loading applications and games it was really fast getting into them and working around.


If you compare the 1090T to the Intel i7 950 or i7 965 its really close between the processors but once you look at the price tag and you'll notice that AMD will save you some money and for some that is important.


The really nice thing about this processor is that it can be easily over-clocked to around 4.2 Ghz without adding liquid cooling or even expensive fans.  There are rumors that the processor has been over-clocked to 6.8 Ghz - InsideHW


I was a bit skeptical at first because I'm not an AMD supporter but all and all this CPU is really well worth the money.

HTC HD2 - Review

So let's start with a phone review.  There are so many phones out there and everyone has their flavour that they like.  The phone was released October 2009 and it's still one of the best phones you can get.  The phone is using Windows Mobile 6.5 and it's got a 4.3" HD Touch LCD, 1 GHz processor, 5mp Camera with autofocus and dual LED flash, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, and GPS support.  The only thing the phone really lacks is a secondary camera and the fact that Microsoft will not be releasing the new Windows Mobile 7 for the HTC HD2.

The phone is responsive and its huge touch screen makes it easy to navigate around.  The phone also doesn't work with a stylus and using your finger is really the only way.  The downside to this is the screen gets really dirty.

All the features of the phone are excellent except for the battery.  I can't really complain because it lasts for around 1 - 3 days depending on the use of the phone.  If you disable most of the features it should last you a while but the reason for buying the phone is for the features.  Best advice is to buy a mobile charger just in case.

According to Microsoft the phone does not meet the minimum requirements but xda-developers are busy looking at a cooked rom for the HTC HD2.

With the release of the Iphone 4, Sony X10 and the all new HD3 the HD2 is still a phone to look at and well worth the bucks.
